The Street View in the cities of Lisbon and Porto was yesterday launched by Google. The application allows, in conjunction with Google Maps, go to these cities pictures taken at street level.

Most of the faces of people and registrations of vehicles that appear in the application are blurred, not to violate the privacy. However, with only 24 hours of availability to the public the most recent update of the implementation of Google, we found several examples of images that are clearly expensive and registrations of people - without being blurred - in Lisbon.

Google explains that its software is not infallible and that such cases can happen. Therefore, a link at the bottom left of each image, so users can report a problem, particularly concerning the violation of privacy. Some of the images is possible to identify people in a neighborhood of the capital much frequented by addicts, some plates visible in several places in Lisbon, or even workers and passersby without the blurred face.


According to the release of Google, Street View "only contains images gathered on public areas." "We respect the fact that people might not like that some images are available on this service. Therefore, we offer simple tools and easy to use to identify and remove inappropriate images or images sensitive", refer to the company.

If a user wants to report certain image, you only need click the corresponding link which opens a form for the complaint. Google says that the image will be removed after the complaint and, if deemed inappropriate or sensitive is removed permanently.

Google also informed that during the preparation of the project in Portuguese cities - in the coming months should be available new locations, including Águeda, Barcelos, Évora, Alverca do Ribatejo, Amadora, Portalegre, Maia, Paredes, Rebordosa, São Salvador do Lordelo, Barreiro and Costa de Caparica - the work was done with the knowledge of the National Commission for Data Protection.
